Bauer media
The brand image that Bauer Media has is adult content, as they majority of the magazines, radio shows and online are mostly things for adults whether it be hobbies (Golf World) music (Kerrang) or women’s clothes/gossip magazines (GRAZIA & Heat). This relates to the target audience for Bauer Media which is quite adult as not only some of the things they publish are for adults e.g. Zoo they do not do anything for children whether it be television shows or magazines. Moreover the majority of magazines produced and every other media on the website is very mainstream and usually very popular e.g. Grazia and FHM, these are mixture for both men and women. However Bauer Media do produce some niche media such as Car and Classic Bike. Furthermore Bauer Media does do other types of media such as online, television and radio, but I can tell that the main focus of Bauer Media is online as the majority of their media is published online.
IPC Media
Although IPC Media does publish magazines for a broader audience the majority of magazines that they do produce are for women e.g. Marie Claire & Women&Home. They do not produce any children’s magazines whether it be teenage or pre-school. This reflects that IPC Media produce more niche magazines than mainstream as they produce mainly magazines like Wallpaper and TV Times, this indicates to the reader that the brand image is hobbies or interests because they produce lots of gossip and sport magazines. Even though the website is called IPC Media which would indicate to the audience that they do other media types e.g. radio & tv they do not do other media, they are just a publishing company.
BBC Magazine
The bbc magazines have a very broad target audience, ranging all the way from ‘Cbeebies’ to ‘Gardeners World’ to ‘Sky at Night’ and ‘Wildlife’. This reflects on the bbc on the whole and how they have a wide range of genres/themes. This indicates to the audience that the bbc has something for every; which in a sense gives the idea of a community which welcomes all. The largest category of magazine appears to be pre-school and adult; this is because these are the two main categories with the widest variety of magazine choice. This could be because the bbc magazine specialises in niche magazines which means that the bbc need to have a wide range of magazines. The magazines themselves are quite controversial they are very colourful which indicates that the magazines are going to be very bright, bold and modern. However on the other hand the magazines look to be for people who are serious as well as passionate about the genre of magazine they are reading. Moreover the bbc magazines does link to other media types that they are involved in e.g. top gear which is a car show, from this we can tell that the bbc is a channel which shows a wide range of television shows. Also from bbc magazines we can tell that the bbc does radio as they have a link to their radio channels website.
Development Hell Limited
Unlike the other three companies Development Hell Limited seems to be a very small company producing only three main magazines that are shown on the home page. This shows that the brand image is very adult as one of the magazines were filtered on the computer, this shows that the content was not suitable for my student user; symbolizes that the magazines that they produce are only for adults and this is their brand image is adults. This is also the target audience as they do not make any children’s, teens or women’s magazines it seems. However surprisingly Development Hell Limited does have connections to other media websites, a major social networking clubbing website, DontStayIn.com.
